Jamison Cavanaugh 26 January 2012 It's midnight and I'm not sleeping. Pretty typical, I guess. Problem is that the reason for no sleep has nothing to do with drag racing or working or anything. I'm thinking about this offer.
There's nothing unreasonable about it. Good pay, (semi)honest work, get to do nice deeds for people and all that. It's just kind of a... responsibility? It's been years since I had to work in a group and years more since I've had to lead one.
So instead of sleeping, I'm here whacking away at the computer. Come to think of it, there should be some port wine in here somewhere. Not the best of stuff, but it might be enough to knock down these nerves.
Yeah, let's go try that. This template was designed by Rayneyday. Don't remove this credit unless you want a five inch heel to your rear. #nosignature#

27 January 2012 The date went surprisingly well, with just one misstep on my part. A pretty big misstep, but it looks like we recovered from it. I did get her number - always a good sign. I'll probably call her tomorrow night or so to set something up. I would have given it a few days before I called her, but things took an unexpected turn.
Since I would probably be the worst possible person to tail her at this point, JR is going to help out on this one. It's my first case anyway, and I think he understood the circumstances. I'll be on hand to watch how he does things, but there's no way I'm getting within sight of her until we go out again. It'd ruin everything.
I hope we will go out again.2 February 2012 We've been watching her for a few days now, nothing yet. Today R did a force pair while she was at lunch. I've decided the man is insane. He went right up to her and had a seat, and they talked about her work (I was listening once the pair went through). She really is sweet.
And I now know much more about her than I should at this point. I plainly told R and F that I did not want to be in on any of their information gathering, but neither of them paid any attention to that. We've found quite a bit about her past travels, her current work, and so on. She's been in therapy, it turns out. F is impressed by her record - she had a three percent higher conviction rate than the average as an investigator. We also found something interesting and possibly related - an enemy in the ADA, "Wash" King. I saw his treatment of her firsthand. I don't think the guy is violent enough to be a problem, but R and F are insisting on keeping options open, and they're looking into his background as well.
We have a date planned for tomorrow. It'll go better than the first, I'm sure. It'll also give me a chance to be "in the field," as my cohorts call it. It's been a week and nothing has gone wrong, so we're thinking maybe this one is a false alarm, maybe triggered by my proximity to her.#nosignature#

3 February 2012 We've had a couple more numbers come out of the Machine. Thankfully none of them have anything to do with me. Both of them were simple; one was handled by R and the other by a Detective C. We're not sure what to think about Elsie's case. They don't usually span this much time. We're giving it till the end of next week before we direct our resources elsewhere.
Anyway, we'll probably continue to see each other, so if anything goes wrong, I shouldn't be far. Our second date went well. She was charming and crazy as always, and she looked beautiful. I have to say I really like her.
The lawyers claim we're almost done settling Terri's estate. She had much more to her name than she'd let on, and more of it went to me than I would have agreed to had I known. I don't know, do the usual laws apply when you're only married under aliases?7 February 2012 She scared me today, though she doesn't know it. R tailed her tonight - she was out late and took a somewhat unsafe way home. We think this might've been it. She got involved in an attempted mugging, and actually took out the guys and called Anna to report it. Then she took off, which reminded me of R. Speaking of, he actually said he was impressed by how she handled the perps. I didn't get to see it, but once you've impressed him, you know you've done good.
Given her ability to look after herself, and the fact that it's almost the end of the week and nothing further has gone on, we're getting ready to close the case. She wasn't the victim in this mugging, but she was involved, and maybe that was enough to alert the Machine.
Since we're calling it done, F and R showed me something they found a while ago that they had kept from me, apparently to keep from clouding my judgment. She has a blog she keeps, and apparently I've been the subject of it quite a bit. I did blush a little, which made the guys laugh. It's pretty odd to see yourself from the outside, through other eyes. But hey, she likes me, so what else matters?10 February 2012 I'm writing now because I'm heading over to her place and I don't expect to be back this evening. It sounds like she's got a romantic night planned, and I mean, I don't want to sound or be overconfident, but I've wanted this since we met.
So here's hoping the next time I look at this, we'll have taken that next step.#nosignature#

22 March 2012 Wishful thinking.
I swear, why do things go wrong the way they do? We had been doing all right, and then... it's not like I'll forget what happened, so why repeat it here?
I've actually waited in the hospital twice now, first for Elsie after that night, once for Sarah after the assignment went bad. Both are ok. Not great, but ok. That's all you can ask sometimes, I guess.
And no, Elsie and I didn't "take that step." We can't for a while. I feel like a jackass for having written that before. It's like I jinxed us or something. At least she made it, though. They both did. She and Sarah. Couldn't have been easy.#nosignature#
